We are seeking patients waiting over 30 days for their initial appointment at CKI Copenhagen or the Sexologisk Center Aalborg.
On December 10, 2025, the Lucy S Fund for Transgender Rights in Denmark secured a critical victory against CKI Odense. In Decision 26SFP02, the Danish Patient Complaints Agency (STPK) ruled that capacity challenges are not a valid legal excuse for failing to provide an initial appointment / first clinical assessment within 30 days.
This decision confirms that the law is on our side. The Region must either assess patients within 30 days or provide a specific, written plan. They cannot simply place patients on a waiting list indefinitely.
We believe that CKI Copenhagen and the Sexologisk Center Aalborg are engaging in the same administrative practices that we consider illegal. Patients there are routinely told that "busy schedules" or "lack of staff" justify wait times of 12-24 months without a valid assessment plan.
This is a violation of the Health Act, and we now have an official STPK decision to support this.
We need your help to expand this ruling nationally
Patients at CKI Odense can already reference this ruling in complaints to STPK, and crucially, in complaints for compensation. We intend to expand this ruling nationally to ensure patients in Aalborg and Copenhagen can similarly do this and confirm our expectation that this ruling applies equally to all gender identity treatment in Denmark. We are seeking patients currently waiting at CKI Copenhagen or Sexologisk Center Aalborg to file complaints identical to the one that won in Odense.
We are looking to hear from you if:
- You have been referred to CKI Copenhagen or Sexologisk Center Aalborg.
- More than 30 days have passed since your referral was received.
- You have not had your first clinical assessment conversation yet.
- You would be willing to decline a dialogue interview so the case can proceed directly to STPK for a decision.
- You would be willing to share case updates with us.
- You would be willing for us to (in an anonymous format) publish your case and use it in further legal and non-legal action.
Please contact us at 30days@transrights.dk if you wish to participate.
When contacting us, please include:
- Which center you are waiting for (Copenhagen or Aalborg).
- The date of your referral (approximate is fine).
- A photo/copy of any letters you have received about waiting times (please redact your personal information).
We may be able to help you file a complaint with the Danish Patient Complaints Agency, referencing the decision already made against CKI Odense.
Your information is handled with strict confidentiality. We will never publish your name or details without your explicit consent.
While we strongly believe in our position, we cannot guarantee any specific outcome of your complaint.
